Twenty-year-old Qawame is forced to work in illegal Sapphire mines in Madagascar. An unexpected event takes him back to his hometown, where he reunites with his mother and friends, but also becomes exposed to the country’s rampant corruption. Qawame faces a choice: easy money or loyalty, selfishness or political awareness. Despite the heavy burden on his shoulders, he repeatedly finds the strength to struggle for a better future. The film echoes the African civil rights movements of the 1970s and deals with the heritage of colonialism and resistance, while shedding light on the present-day reality.
