A historical thriller based on real events. In 1958, in the height of the cold war, a group of Yugoslav scientists is exposed to a lethal dose of radiation at the Vinča Nuclear Institute near Belgrade, and sent by the secret police to treatment in Paris. There, they undergo the world’s first bone marrow transplants between donors and recipients who are not relatives. The film highlights the tension between extraordinary scientific achievements and their heavy human price, combining contemporary politics with medical history.
