The Day Iceland Stood Still

The morning of October 24, 1975, was a defining moment in the history of the struggle for gender equality: 90% of Iceland’s women abandoned their workplaces and stopped their housework to protest against the unbearable gap between their pay and the actual value of their work. Iceland stood still, but the great revolution moved on. Through fascinating archives and inspiring animation, the film documents the dramatic 12 hours that changed the lives of women in Iceland and worldwide. It tells the story of the heroines of the struggle for gender equality, which disrupted the patriarchal system in one of the most effective protests in history.
