Hanan Al-Sanah grew up in a conservative Bedouin family. Despite the custom according to which girls have to study until ninth grade and marry at age 18, she was the only one who got to the university and acted for justice and women’s rights. Now, too, she has chosen to transcend the fear and do what’s right and just: she started a joint Arab-Jewish volunteer center in southern Israel active relentless to help both Jewish and Arab families get through the difficult wartime.
