Bil'in Program
5 Broken Cameras
Emad Burnat from the Palestinian Bil’in receives his first video camera on the occasion of the birth of his son Jibril in 2005. At that time, Israel decides to build the Separation Barrier on the land of his village. The villagers oppose that decision and their weekly protests with international and Israeli peace activists come to symbol nonviolent resistance. Burnat documents both Jibril and the struggle, and his cameras get shot and broken in the process. Through their fragments, the film paints a human portrait of life under occupation, of the ability of the gaze to change reality.
